They are getting around this by not calling it a regional landfill but an expansion of an existing landfill that will allow garbage from the service area to be brought in. The approval of the expansion can take place regardless of the solid waste plan if the county board approves it. However on appeal we will see if the Illinois Pollution Control Board agrees. It would be helpful if you were to write a letter about this to the Illinois Pollution Control Board. Thanks for your support with the efforts of everyone we can defeat this. That is a good point. Drainage ditch #1 starts at Somonauk road south of the landfill and continues in a northeasterly direction until it joins drainage ditch #2 & #3 which becomes the south branch of the Kishwaukee River through Sycamore and onto the Rock River. What guarantee exist that runoff from the landfill will not get into this drainage system and toxic material contaminate the water and communities that border the waterway? We have seen how the river overflows due to heavy rains and I am concerned as to where the excess water goes from the landfill. The test that I have read about are from the current landfill.
