A public hearing on the proposed expansion of the DeKalb County landfill is scheduled for March 1 at the 285-seat Jenkins Auditorium at Kishwaukee College in Malta. The hearing is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. and end at 5 p.m.
Waste Management wants to expand and increase the landfill from about 350 tons of trash per day from DeKalb County to take about 2,000 tons per day from surrounding counties, which would pay a tipping fee to dump there.

Dan, it was a pleasure meeting you tonight, and keep up the good work. I am an amateur engineer, inventor and thinker. I have always thought about energy, loss and reclamation, as well as waste and how it effects/affects the world we live in. I will be on board as much as possible to help stop the Mega Dump, and please feel free to contact me. I live on a busy corner, high visibility, and will happily (with permits if necessary ) place signage on my property against the dump. I look forward to hearing from you..

I have been following this issue ever since it came up and I am glad to see there are other people who care as much as I do about the proposed growth of the landfill. Thank you for this website and your commitment.
It is a shame that people who represent us continuously disregard what we really want (to not have the landfill expand) and (seemingly) only act out of self-interest. I understand that this is for a “good cause” if you will – the jail does need funding to be worked on. However, it is very short-sighted to count on money the county doesn’t yet have. It seems to me only a fool would try to do such a thing.
What really concerns me is that Waste Management is trying to make this sound like a really good deal: expanding the landfill capacity which means more money for the county to fund whatever they want. But at the same time we are going to have to accommodate everybody else’s trash. The proposed increase is almost 6 times as much as is deposited now every day. Nobody in charge seems to question the Waste Management’s ultimate motive: Making more money. This is the typical “I scratch your back if you scratch mine” mentality without considering the consequences which are more waste, more ground and air pollution. All of this revolves around money and ultimately greed.
What people also need to realize though is the fact that this landfill will be full eventually. Instead of just blocking the idea of expansion, we need to immediately start reducing the waste we produce. On average, our family of five fills up 2 garbage bags a week plus recyclables. What about everybody else who fills up 1-2 whole garbage cans a week? This is absolutely not sustainable.
I am happy to support the opposition to the landfill expansion in any way I can. I live here, I am raising my children here and I want to leave behind a good, clean and safe environment for them and everybody else. This way they can have their children grow up here too.

Thank you for the supportive statements. Please spread the word and please come out Monday to the public hearing it will take many voices for us to be heard above the rattling of silver coins that the county board seems to be listening to.

Do you need people for door to door petitions? I live in Sycamore and more than willing if given the petitions and permits, if required.
This is outrageous. Is this how DeKalb County works?
Is a gag order legal? No wonder few know about this.
Let me know how I can help, in the short time left.

Send this website to voters in DeKalb County. Speak concerns to Dekalb County Board members therefore they can listen. Keep documentation of it. Remember ALL names who support this landfill scheme . They choose to prostitute our Eco-Friendly efforts to expand the longevity of the landfill for residents, rape us of our vote, voice, and representation once “EFFECTIVE” public advertising became evident , steal the well being of children who ARE in harms way, contract our environment for Toxic Money, and indulge in a drunken state of shallowness from its “Revenue”. Fast cash IS BAD Cash. Crooks can dress in nice suits. Which political office do these Criminals hold? Time to Clean House !!!!!

The Megadump, even if approved, may not be able to open if you do a noise pollution evaluation at the school. If trucks pass the school, noise pollution is not allowed over a certain # of decibils. Standing next to the school as trucks pass and measuring the noise may not allow them to come down that road or be nearby. Please check the rules on noise pollution and schools. This is a way out. It worked in Western Illinois years ago. No Megadump because of the school.

Good job, Dan, Mack, et al! Your group must have spent a lot of money as well as time in researching the issue and mobilizing public opposition to this unwise proposal to make DeKalb County a depository for other folks garbage.
I looked but couldn’t find an address for where to send contributions. Please add this information to your webste.
Thanks for your incredible efforts and professional opposition to the megadump.
